Snow in the Valley,

In the afternoon after New Years day clouds started moving in and then it started to snow. By 9 at night the ground was covered. Nanuk was so happy he had to roll around in it

Teddy coming out of the dark as it snows

this is what it looked like before I went to bed

we all had fun in the snow that night

Well Whitney stayed inside on her high spot where she sleeps every night

the goats stayed out of the snow and sat in their warm and dry straw

this what it looked like when we woke up, it was still snowing too

Ayla running towards me

still running with the ears flapping

got several good shots of Cici running too
here the two of them had a little standoff

Nanuk is really the peacemaker, he saw the standoff and he started the "hey let's play" action

Nanuk was very happy in the snow

Nothing like a Great Pyrenees in the snow, just looks so pretty

he likes eating snow

the chickens were not thrilled

My 2 Golden Laced Wyandottes didn't seem to mind the snow as much as the others

it was fun to have some snow for once

Enya in all her glory

Teddy headshot

Teddy had a really thick coat, it's really easy care, impossible to brush or comb, it's best left alone. Only at shedding time I am able to brush out some of it.
Another headshot of Teddy

Kobi was just running and running in the snow, must have felt like home to him, he came from the cold North

I was happy to see him having so much fun in the snow

Enya and Kobi

isn't he cute? Thankfully he is a little dog, because he likes to run up full speed and then slam into me.

he was barking furiously at the noise from snow falling off the bushes

Souzie looked at the snow with dismay, she did not go outside

Cici

This is Leydi, she grew up in Florida, so I am sure the only snow she has ever seen were the few times here in our valley. This was funny because she ran out of the house

but when Ayla came running straight at her Leydi turned direction, perfect calming signal
Leydi thinking of some mischief

Ayla and Leydi playing

And then Leydi got the zoomies and took of running like a puppy

she did several laps around the place when she was in zoomie mode

Ayla peaking out from the ditch

then she went underground
just a little bit of the tail is visible
gone

then she heard somebody barking and came out to see what was going on

and here she jumps into action, note the muddy paws
Ayla way ahead of Nanuk, they were running after a raven who dared flying overhead

Nanuk seems very pleased with himself to have run off the raven

he loves to eat snow

those pics were taken before the snow, this is Cici

Nanuk running off another raven, he actually responds to "birdie" and if I point in the direction of the bird he responds to that too

Cici was a bit cranky here and Nanuk tries to get her to play. He has done that a lot with Simba in the past, when she was trying to attack him, he would just act like a playful puppy and she would leave him alone.

Ayla and Cici

Cici is filling out nicely

Full speed

the two of them playing, Cici is the master of play bows

they both love a good wrestling game

Nanuk digging at the cave site

trying to get into the tunnel from the top of the hill

picture of the chickens having a party at the muddy puddle. I don't know what it is about chickens, I have 4 clean water containers sitting out at all times, two of them are heated so the water is never freezing cold, but when I empty out a bucket they all come running to drink the dirty muddy water like it's a special treat. I try my best to avoid creating puddles, but this just doesn't make sense that they are so crazy about drinking dirty water.

Enya out for a walk

Enya

another one of Enya looking into the distance

Teddy, he loves going for walks and he is so sweet and walks very well with me

something got his attention

Comments:
About chickens liking muddy water; I think it's that they like the movement of the water. Their instinct is to chase and peck at moving things and when water is poured out onto the ground there are bits of grit, chaff, seeds, etc. that move suddenly. Very exciting!!
