9 days old,

Purple girl and white girl. Last night we had our first problem. Yellow dot girl started screaming and since I didn't see what started it I was afraid Leydi had stepped on her as Leydi left when the screaming started. So I went to check out the puppy, no injuries to see, but she was very obviously not comfortable, I watched her as she kept moving wanting to go to sleep but each time she would just start making noises like she was in pain, kind of hunching up like her belly was hurting. So I brought out the infant gas drops and gave her three drops of those. It only took about 3 minutes and she was sound asleep, pewwh. So I thought I could eat dinner but as soon as I sat down I heard crying once again, so back I went to check, this time it was a different puppy, white collar girl, since the symptoms looked the same, I gave her the gas drops right away, and she also settled down in a few minutes. Was I ever glad to have the gas drops and that the solution to the problem was so simple. None of the other pups had a problem. I kind of suspect that Leydi may have gotten into the chicken food when she came along when I changed the water for the goats and chickens. The chicken food is mainly soy and corn, something I don't normally give my dogs, but they seem to think of it as a special treat. So that could have caused the stomach cramps, maybe those two puppies got more of the milk than the others or maybe they are the only ones sensitive to it.

black boy and red girl sleeping, I think part of the different look of this male puppy seems to be a thicker coat, his coat feels more plush than the other puppies who have a more smooth feel to their coats. I could be wrong, it's probably too early to tell, but just an observation.

purple girl is taking a break, it's funny to watch how some puppies when they are done nursing just let go and let themselves roll off to wherever

the puppies got their first nail clipping experience today, those little nails are as sharp as a cat's claw. So I brought out some nail clippers, like the one that people use and did everybody's front feet. It was actually very easy as long as the puppy wasn't squirming, a few took a little longer to settle down and I noticed if I did the nails first before I put them on the scale they were calmer. So I am learning too. What I find interesting is that every single puppy notices that the scale is not a solid surface like the ground or my lap, and of course the more they move the more the scale moves too. Now we are not talking about swinging back and forth, it's more like being in a high riser and the slight movement of the building, but nonetheless, they can tell it's different and they seem to instinctively know that this is not the place to be.
just a cute face, yellow girl
Orange girl is on the move
the breaks don't work yet, so for now bumping into mom is okay to stop the forward motion
